Description
Dental decay is a preventable disease that disproportionately affects low-income people. Tooth decay, the most prevalent and chronic disease among children, has a myriad of negative academic, physical, socio-emotional, and economic consequences. Adults with decayed, missing or broken teeth are often harshly judged and stereotyped. As a result, they have difficulty finding jobs, which diminishes their ability to thrive in the community and provide a better life for their children.
Silicon Valley Healthy Smiles, hosted by the Santa Clara County Dental Foundation is a large-scale, two-day dental clinic where volunteer dentists, working alongside community volunteers, will provide dental care valued at $2 million, to over 1,800 underserved members of our community. Our mission is to increase the overall health of individuals and families by eliminating infection, relieving pain and improving the overall quality of life for community members who experience barriers to care. Cleanings, fillings, extractions, dentures, oral health education and assistance in finding a long-term dentist will be provided.
